Go Read Lewis & Clark, by Nick Bertozzi

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

I just picked up a copy of Nick Bertozzi’s new book, Lewis & Clark. I blasted right through it, and can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s history, so it’s good for you, but it reads like an adventure story, so it’s really a load of fun. It’s one of those stories that I just finished reading, but now I’m going to read it again because I enjoyed it so much, and I’m sure I’ll find stuff in there that I missed.

Mr. Bertozzi is an amazing storyteller and artist. The way he composes his pages is fascinating to me. He sets up a lot of panels which stretch from one page to the next and kind of guides the reader’s eye all over the pages. For a guy like me who sticks to basically the same six panels every page, looking at Bertozzi’s work is really an education. Who knows, maybe it’ll inspire me to come up with a story that mixes the panels up a little more. That’d be fun, right?
