I'd constantly have to draw cars or trains for him to color. It's funny but I can't even think of when or why we outgrew that. That's a ton of work there. My boy is four-years-old. We're just getting into the reading thing. It's a lot of fun. When we read comics, he can read all the sound effects for us and I have to supply the rest. Stuff like 'Thump!', 'Pop!', and 'Flap!', are easy words for him to sound out I guess, so it works great.
